THE GENE DEBATE
Genetically modified food
What’s this?
What’s this?
Genetically modified (GM) food is a foodstuff produced from genetically modified organisms (GMO) that have had their DNA altered through genetic engineering.
The principal food modified genetically is the tomato, the sweet maize (corn) and the rice
Advantages
• Cheaper products
• More benefits
• To increase the protection of the vegetables food against diseases caused by insects or virus
Disadvantages
• Have been expressed that eating GM food could cause health problems in humans

Cloning animals
What’s this?
The cloning of an organism is a new organism creates with the same genetic information that a cell of the existing one
Dolly sheep
Dolly the sheep may have been the world's most famous clone, but she wasn’t the first. Cloning creates a genetically identical copy of an animal or plant. Many animals ,including frogs, mice, sheep, and cows, had been cloned before Dolly. Plants are often cloned. When you take a cutting, you are producing a clone. Human identical twins are also clones.
Dolly’s history The sheep Dolly (it lived of 1996 until 2003), was the first mammal to the being cloning from an adult cell. It was cloning in Scotland, where it lived until it died at the age of six.
The name "Dolly" comes from a suggestion on the part of the professionals who contributed in the conception in honor to Dolly Parton.

Advantages
• Production of pigs the organs of which they are easily transplanted to human beings.
•Treatment (healing) of diseases like the cancers and the virus.
•It can be some day it will be possible to invest the process of aging.
•The heart attacks might be invested.
•Substitution of the defective cells.
•Surgery: it might reproduce parts of the body, as bones and cartilages.
Disadvantages
•The human cloning might have a few consequences: children be born with two heads, two hearts...
Opinion
In our opinion, cloning animals and GM foods aren’t healthier because it isn’t natural. But it’s a scientific advance.
